It was HOT - really HOT, about 100 degrees under the tent and 120 on the track. Add a full set of leathers and you can only imagine what it was like for the riders. Regardless of the conditions, Brian was brilliant as usual. First up - 750 Super Bike |
Next up was the Formula Pacific race with our HP2 |
Brian makes a killer pass on two bikes at once on the inside of a turn |
What are the odds of a rock bouncing on the track and dropping into our HP2's Shaft Tube while it's doing about 130mph - maybe a gazzillion to one? Well it happened and all Brian heard was a sound like a blender crushing up ice cubes - he pulled out of the race just to be safe.
Why is there an opening in the shaft tube? On stock bikes there are rubber boots that cover this opening where the shaft pivots. On the race bike it's removed due to the excessive heat generated by the additional abuse of racing. Removing the boot allows the shaft and u-joints to run cooler and in-turn require less replacement. (in all our years of racing - this has never happened before) |
Brian had to see what that horrific noise was, so he leaned the bike over on the valve cover |
After the Formula Pacific Race - Mike, Jeff & Chris ran out to get the HP2 (120º on the track) |
While the crew was off collecting the bike, ex-team-mate Tom Montano gave Brian a ride back to the pits. Too bad, as the HP2 was really hauling the mail & Brian was up to 3rd at one point
The last two races were Open Twins & 750 Production |
In Open Twins we're 2nd in the points & usually run the HP2. Not wanting to risk more damage to the HP, Brian took out our R1200S X-Bike (Da'Bomb). The last race of the day was 750 Production & the X-Bike finishes up the day. |
Jeff, Mike & AL worked continuously thru the day's heat to keep Brian on Top Shelf San Jose BMW Racing machines. (Chris helped too) | |
